my story
As I approach my 5 year anniversary in the hospitality industry in Orlando (who wants to celebrate!?), I've realized I'm full of knowledge that others may not be so fortunate to have. When I started college majoring in biology in 2003, I thought for sure, by now I'd have had some significant impact on the world...maybe already discovered a new species or something...and as I sit in my little '06 Nissan Sentra, waiting for my $8 car wash to run it's course, I realize I haven't accomplished my dream of doing that. Some have told me that once you've been in the hospitality industry for too long, you can get stuck and although I'm young and hope to have a large chunk of my future ahead of me, I can't help but feel a little stuck. Because I haven't yet been able to change the world with the knowledge I spent my early twenties, and thousands of dollars obtaining, I came up with this great idea! I'm going to start a blog and try to change the world with the information I've gained from working in hotels for what seems like an eternity.
To give myself a little accreditation, I'll tell you I started as a front desk agent for a small local hotel chain. In the four years I was with the company, I played the role of a front desk lead, a group tour and travel coordinator, a call center reservations agent, and a wholesale data entry agent. In 2010, I decided to torture myself by getting a second job for another hotel chain, only this one is world renowned (for future reference and to protect the integrity of each company, we'll call them little hotel chain and big hotel chain). Eventually, I left little hotel chain and am currently enjoying working as a group housing coordinator for big hotel chain.
My hope is that someone will enjoy reading what I have to say. I promise to keep it fun and maybe give you all a little bit of insight as to what it's like not only behind the scenes of a hotel, but also behind the scenes of this young, single, small-town girl trying to make a difference in this world.
Thanks for reading!
Jena
